Kase Klosed?

I've been befuddled for a good long time how Jack Kruse can make the claims he makes yet remains a practicing neurosurgeon in good standing.  Well ... perhaps this sheds some light on goings on:

At its Nov. 18, 2011, meeting, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Board of Directors approved the recommendations of the Professional Conduct Committee that three members be disciplined for unprofessional conduct while appearing as expert witnesses in medical malpractice lawsuits. The disciplinary actions are:
John J. Kruse, MD — Six-month Suspension. The Board concluded that Dr. Kruse gave false testimony in a deposition regarding the size of pedicle screws used in surgery by another neurosurgeon. There were several other matters which, while not the basis for the suspension recommendation, were causes for concern.
Well, this would explain a lot.  "Jack" is John unless anyone even doubts.   This is not a suspension of license to practice, just society membership, but still.  Not sure what "other matters" are.  Interesting the other two refer at least to years when the alleged infraction occurred but not Jack's.  Just passing publicly available info along to my readers...

This whole affair feels like a reality TV show; do you think Kruse has Jerry Springer on his back?

'They keep on hatin' but dude... I'M the neurosurgeon here'

All his professional colleagues are just "haters' I guess. But at least we know he lies in court and not just at TEDx presentations and on his blog.

So at least Jack is consistent.

Maybe Jack will explain the "other matters" if someone asks him?

What would it take for him to get his medical license suspended? Complaints from patients? I have no idea what the procedure is.

His license wasn't suspended. His membership to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) was

Tough to narrow down, isn't it? :)

Sorry to say this, but I'm GLAD that this is coming out. I had no doubt (and this is just my opinion) whatsoever that he would be publicly exposed as a fraud, liar, psycho, whatever, at some point. I also have no doubt that this isn't the last bad behavior that we're going to hear about from this clown.

Definitely John is Jack Kruse:

I know. I'm asking what would it take for his license to be suspended. What sorts of horrible things does a doctor have to do before his medical license is actually suspended?

"Not sure what "other matters" are."

Probably that he's bats**t crazy.

It really bothers me that there's nothing about even an inquiry here by the licensing board. If I was going to have someone cut open my neck, I'd not want Jack to be that person. He's been notorious enough for long enough that this should be on the front burner .... That is IF he's still practicing.

Welcome an3drew! This HAS to come out. I, for one, am tired of the "so long as he's not hurting anyone but perhaps himself" defenses of this quack.

I think perjury is a felony in most states, so eventually JK(neurosurgeon) may be a convicted felon? Anyway on to another wingnut often appearing at LLVLC comes this: The LLVLC Show (Episode 416): Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum Helps You 'Beat Sugar Addiction Now' .

Just announced;

Jacob Teitelbaum gets FDA warning letter.

The FDA has ordered Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., doing business as From
Fatigued to Fantastic, LLC, to stop making illegal therapeutic claims
for Corvalen (D-Ribose), Coenzyme Q10, Jigsaw Magnesium w/ SRT, "BMR
Complex (Thyroid Glandular), Energy Revitalization System,
Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Chol-less, Thymic Protein, Alpha Lipoic acid,
Black Cohosh, and Eskimo 3 Fish Oil.

Teitelbaum is medical director of Chronicity (formerly named
Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers) which operates 13 clinics in the
United States. Last year the FDA warned Chronicity to stop making
illegal claims for Chol-less and several other products.

The natural stuff probably works but you can't claim it cures anything. He should know this.

True Sue -- That's why I'm so very conflicted over supplements and regulations. I don't want availability compromised by regulation, but OTOH, the vast majority of supplements contain far too little of the active ingredient that produced some effect in some study. Also interesting how many claim to take no medications while swallowing supplements like they're a food group.

@RR, I doubt he'll (JK) be prosecuted for this. They only do that to celebs and notorious criminal types they can't get a conviction on for something else.

Jack Jack, Jack... What have you been up to? If you're not careful, people might just start to get a suspicion that you're not being 100% truthful all the time. Don't laugh, it could happen. Credibility could suffer. But hey, if you are operating under super secret orders from the home base in an alternate universe, this might be a good time to disclose that.

On the other hand, it might not matter after all. Doing a websearch, I see that the Paleo world is mostly silent on this - aside from some posts on Paleohacks. The silence is such a shocker, from the community that is so interested in the 'truth'.
Lerner said…
I also doubt very much that there will be any charges from this. But I'd see it more as a matter of there being no one with power who is really ticked off enough to push it. It was in a deposition, not in court - so there's no judge to be irate. Also, Jack was not a subject of investigation, so there are no LEOs to be ticked over being lied to.

OTOH, the possibly lucrative income from being an expert witness has likely evaporated.
Lerner said…
Kurt, I've been seeing various Paleos complaining about dissension and criticism from within "the movement". I don't know who they're talking about - but if it's you then I salute you. Keep up the good work.
CarbSane said…
Yep ... last line there is key! Having been suspended from one's professional society for false info on a deposition just killed that line of work. I can see the opposing counsel's questions now ;)
bentleyj74 said…
Nah there's still plenty of ways for any good conspiracy theorist to spin it. "They" were persecuting him for his innovative research and exposing their good old boy system of patting each other on the back and giving each other legs up which of course the LLVLC crowd doesn't practice by any means. The deposition was a set up.
Lerner said…
As a guess, I'd think the minimum fee is around $5000 for something simple. That's one of the big reasons why medmal cases are so expensive to conduct. A medmal lawyer will most often stipulate that the injuries must be "permanent and catastrophic". But that's not a matter of law, only a matter of the economics of trying a medmal case.
Lerner said…
so I guess it won't be known what happened, or if anything was even technically illegal or not. I searched Jack's site for the word "suspension" and no explanation is there.

btw, on the youtube of his TEDx talk, someone named digisurg comments as if he is Jack.

Hey this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs
use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code
with HTML. I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
