Diet Plan Programs
Hey all, just your friendly "community" consumer advocate here letting you know a few things about Jimmy Moore's latest venture. A little while back he announced three new things coming to LLVLC. Jimmy wrote:
It’s one thing to read a book about low-carb and I highly encourage you to do that. But sometimes people have difficulty interpreting what they read on the pages of a book into what that should look like on their plate. That’s why I’ve created the “Livin’ Low Carb Meal Plan” set to release to the public on Monday, December 17, 2012. You’ll get meal plans, shopping lists, recipes and so much more to help you stay on the straight and narrow on your low-carb diet. Many people get into a rut with their low-carb meals, so I hope you take advantage of this new service designed to help you keep this from happening. {emphasis mine}
Why anyone would subscribe to a meal plan created by Jimmy Moore is beyond me anyway, but a quick look and it is obvious he had absolutely nothing to do with creating this plan. Which is probably a good thing, but then who is behind this? All Jimmy Moore is doing is sticking his brand on a service. A quick look at the recipes and they are nowhere near the foods Jimmy posted on his menus blog for almost four years. Many of the recipes are too high in carbs for even the former Jimmy Moore -- and then there's that attention paid to calories LOL!
There was some discussion of this in comments over on WotE blog about this and I just thought this looked too familar to me. Ahhh ... paleoplan.com, the website/blog of one 100 lb Neely Quinn (among others) who foolishly went NuttyK for a bit. The FAQ's for Jimmy's and Neely's site are exactly the same. Well, except they forgot to change Paleo to Low Carb in one FAQ. For example:
So the only question that remains is who is behind the menu planning here. It was suggested in a private conversation that this sounds like a company that is marketing their product through bloggers they can get to put their brand on them. Sounds about right to me. But then who constructed these plans? If you're going to pay for something like this, wouldn't you want someone with some sort of nutritional training -- even if it's not through mainstream academia? I would like to know the meal plans are at least micronutritionally adequate, or based on a particular LC plan, or somesuch. All we (meaning you and I) are told is that "we" the people behind this have done all of the work for you. But we don't know anything about the other we. Not good.
To be clear, there's nothing nefarious about this, but it is a bit sleazy cheezy. I'm not in the diet advice business, but I feel no obligation to offer a disclaimer when I offer this advice. Save your money for some food of your choice.
Just passing info along!
UPDATE: Melissa weighs in: Meal Plan Scams @ Paleodrama
UPDATE II: From comments at WotE, the creator of menus and recipes is Molly Pearl: She has a degree in Hotel & Restaurant management, worked in a restaurant that had a James Beard award chef (need I remind you a busser could make the same claim), then became a licensed massage therapist.
