My (New) Carb Sane-Asylum
Announcing my unveiling of the new look here at the Asylum!
If I were a conspiracy theorist I would believe someone jacked my usual browser as just after I applied the new template -- that needed quite a bit of tweaking -- blogger went down on me. So much for doing it in the wee hours! Then I saw a comment come through my reader on another blogspot blog and tried IE. Well, thankfully that worked.
Not much will be changing here at my main blog, other than the look, but I've now revealed my secret identity and written a bit more about the conception of this blog and its direction moving forward. Always being an all or nuthin' kinda gal, there's probably a lot more about me there than anyone needs to know.
The most important new thing is the Discussion Boards are open! Jump on in!!
I hope I have all the links going to the right places. Please do let me know if you find any problems there. And, as always, feedback is welcome!
Now off to raise some dust somewhere .... {VBEG}

I just received an email article from Mercola.com (as I do almost every day). Here are some quotes from the article called "Simple Way to Shed Pounds and Decrease Tiredness-Stop Easting This", supposedly from Joe himself:
“Overconsumption of carbs is the primary driving factor for insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes."
"In a nutshell, overeating carbohydrate foods can prevent a higher percentage of fats from being used for energy, and lead to an increase in fat storage. It also raises your insulin levels, which in short order can cause insulin resistance, followed by diabetes. Insulin resistance is also at the heart of virtually every disease known to man.”
Seems he is taking his physiology lessons from Taubes, Eades and the rest.
It's also funny, the article begins by saying white bread was 40% of the UK diet in 1911, and that a campaign was started to get people to eat more whole grains. As this article is partially about how CARBOHYDRATES makes you fat, I wonder what the obesity statistics looked like for the UK population in 1911, when their diet consisted of 40% bread? I can say this, in 1978, only about 7% of the population in England had a BMI of 30 or more (compared to roughly 23% now). I would bet it was lower in 1911, even while eating all that low quality white bread (and likely far fewer calories).
I'm all for going to a more nutritious diet, reducing bread intake (especially white bread) and the like. But the Carbs->increased insulin->increased IR and body fat->diabetes mantra is incredibly wide spread-it gets really old!
I love this quote from Chris Masterjohn:
"Saying that insulin causes insulin resistance is like saying that childhood mortality is caused by children."
I had inadvertantly allowed comments on my about page, and for now don't think that's a good idea. So I'm C&P'ing the two existing comments here.

Thanks for sharing all this info about yourself. I still think you were credible without the background check. However, it's great to know more about you.
By the way, the jpg file isn't working for me. I tried it with both Firefox and IE. Just a heads up.

I have to work on that jpg. An email buddy told me they didn't see it either, although it shows in my browser. I'll work on that.
The 'You need to check in...' list is so funny - and so true!
I really like the library you're developing, and I'm sure you'll see me wandering the shelves there from time to time.

I'm exhausted from all that praise. Gonna go eat a Twinkie.

Just joking about that Twinkie thing. But I'm doing a hike self-experiment this July 4 that I will report on July 5.
