On the left: Without an insulin spike...What happens to the fatty acids? Some are distributed and stored. <- that bit?

It has some kind of references at the bottom, therefore it must be true.

Nigel got at what I was going after here. The question that always came to mind when I first heard the insulin hypothesis was "where does the fat go?" -- so on the left there you have that it is stored if it is not used. You don't really want it stored in any significant quantities anywhere besides your fat tissue! On the right, we have the opposite of "where does the fat come from?" -- if you are eating a low fat meal, there's not much to be trapped from the meal, and since you have roughly 0.5-0.75 g of NEFA circulating at any given time, that's not a lot of fat that can be sucked up from circulation to be trapped either.

And lastly, there's no reason that a meal cannot be high protein and high carb or high fat.
